A coilgun or Gauss rifle is a type of projectile accelerator consisting of one or more coils used as electromagnets in the configuration of a linear motor that accelerate a ferromagnetic or conducting projectile to high velocity. In almost all coilgun configurations, the coils and the gun barrel are arranged on a common axis. It is not a rifle as the barrel is not rifled. Hi all, I want to ask about something interesting I discovered about the gauss gun a long time ago that I've not seen a single mention of anywhere.
When aiming at certain surfaces, if you right click once (i.e. charge it the least amount possible) the shot will appear to reflect and hit you, causing damage. There are two reasons I find this weird:
1: It only happens with a single right click. On these surfaces if you fire a primary shot or charge it with more than 1 ammo it won't rebound.
2: Blood decals appear on the surface regardless of distance when doing this.
I don't have any images or videos of this, so you'll have to see it for yourself:
Open up Half Life or Opposing Force and go onto the Gasworks map.
Climb up the tower with the Gauss Gun and pick it up.
Turn around and aim at the corner of the tower.
Right click once and watch as your body parts are scattered across the map.
I should mention that I've almost exclusively done this on multiplayer maps, with the exception being one room on the USS Darkstar mod. I haven't properly tested this in single player so I don't know of any places it works there.
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? I'm curious as to why its not mentioned anywhere, surely I can't be the only person who's seen this?
